Workshop: New Features and Data Types in the UCSC Genome Browser

This UCSC Browser workshop will showcase new data types and new features of the UCSC Genome Browser. Recently released features include a modification of the BLAT search tool allowing search with DNA sequence on 105 organisms at once and a method of swapping alternate haplotypes and patches with annotations into the human genome assemblies. New data types include interact, which displays physical and conceptual relationships between genomic regions, barChart for summarizing multiple gene-expression profiles, and Track Collections, which allows co-configuration of multiple sequence coverage density profiles (e.g., RNA-seq). The workshop will feature hands-on problem-solving using the new features, including uploading data in the new formats and exercises interpreting the results. Participants will be given step-wise instructions for solving the problems. Active sessions showing the results will be prepared and links to these results will be provided. Our goal is to expand the usefulness of the Browser for participants, showing new features and new data types for visualizing their data. Intended Audience: Our target audience is researchers with experience using the Genome Browser and trainees at various stages of development.
