Championing a diverse workforce, including individuals from underrepresented groups in biomedical research is critical to support the success of genomic medicine implementation in community and clinical settings. Historically, diversity efforts in genomics workforce development have focused on advanced-degree holders, but paraprofessionals—those in roles not requiring advanced degrees (e.g. laboratory or medical assistants, nursing assistants, community health workers)—present significant opportunities. This workforce, critical to genomics research and practice, often lacks access to genomics education despite representing a higher proportion of underrepresented populations. This webinar highlights four innovative programs training paraprofessionals in genomics competencies. Speakers will share how partnerships were built between lead and partner sites, describe developed curricula, demonstrate interactive activities, and discuss the training's impact on learners and programs, particularly its role in advancing workforce diversity efforts.
